Abstract: Preservice teachers in art education need opportunities to develop skills and understandings about the potential for technology in education and art. While technology is is characterized by deep divides in terms of available resources, teacher preparation, and committment to expanding art curriculua into new media, the need for elementary and secondary students to be exposed to possibilities for technology and career paths that are available is important. Furthermore the possibilities for enhancing the role of art in the curriculum through more in-depth collaborations using technology have implications for enhancing student learning. Teacher preparation courses in universities should emphasize the visual and aesthetic aspects of computer applications as they develop new ways to use technology effectively for teaching and learning.
