Abstract

The main purpose of the present research was to study the effect of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) on freshmen high school students on learning English as a second language. The independent variable was the teaching method, which was teaching by computer. The dependant variable was learning English.The hypotheses of the research were studying the influence of this instructional method on learning different aspects of the English language: Grammar and Sentence Structure, Writing Skills, Vocabulary and Idioms, and Reading Comprehension. This study was a quasi-experimental research. There were experimental and control group. The experimental group was thought by using computer and the non-experimental group was thought by the traditional method. The subjects of this research were chosen from high school students in Tehran.The study indicated that teaching by the help of computer results better learning achievements. The use of new technologies is recommended as the result of this study.
