Abstract

Ball State University was awarded a U.S. Department of Education grant to comprehensively test the deployment and learning impact of high-production interactive media delivered over high bandwidth wireless technology. The media include materials for K-12 education in school and in the home, social activities, and entertainment in the home. The project has generated applied educational and technological knowledge in schools and the surrounding community, outcomes, and findings concerning the development of the wireless infrastructure and rich media educational content to connect two elementary schools (1 and 7 miles away from campus), and surrounding neighborhoods. The grant examined the potential benefit of deploying a high-capacity broadband, wireless network, evaluated the network's impact on learning and social activities, gained real-world experience with developing partnerships with the technology sectors and content providers, and with preparing teachers, students, and homes for the delivery and use of rich media.
