Abstract
The present paper examines the concept of Quality Assurance (QA) from different dimensions and makes an attempt to deal with some critical issues related to quality assurance in Distance Higher Education in India especially related to the parameters required to be observed by a Distance Education (DE) Institution to assure quality in the system from the point of view of its stakeholders, especially the learners. Based on the theoretical understanding and the data collected from secondary sources of information, the study analyses various issues and suggests certain parameters / service performance indicators towards ensuing quality assurance in the system. The study concludes that quality should govern both the 'spirit and essence' of what is expected of the institution, how did they do it and what is actually achieved in the process of providing education and ODL institution must bear the fact while developing its programmes.
