Abstract
In this paper, mathematics education web sites in Korea that could easily be found and accessed by students were evaluated using a simple model for classifying the web sites based on their content type and level of interactivity with the student. The study was part of a more comprehensive research program at Ewha Womans University in Korea to develop a mathematics curriculum with emphasis on promoting creativity and integrating technology into the curriculum. The study suggests that general mathematics education web sites in Korea are currently mostly information based with minimal interaction required by the student. Since a general guideline for integrating technology into the mathematics curriculum is not yet available, web sites appear to be focused on ease of creation and transfer of information. Only a few sites took advantage of the interactive nature of the Internet. The study concluded that more emphasis needs to be placed on research and teacher education to take advantage of the interactive potential of the Internet to promote constructive learning.
