Abstract

The main topic of this presentation initiates a discussion about the history of typesetting and the development of graphic design over the years. This paper presents the growth of typesetting, from the time of type casting in the mid-1400's, through the time of photo-typesetting beginning in the 50's and 60's, and concludes by taking a closer look at digital typesetting of the modern day, emphasizing the most popular products on the market today. These products include Photoshop, Illustrator, PageMaker and In-Design and some prospective views, discussed in the full paper, of how integrating these programs into the school system could greatly enhance the learning experience for students of middle school, high-school, and beyond. Some pros and cons of utilizing these products are listed, with regards to integrating this technology into the classroom setting. The presentation will be in a poster format with a slide show available on-site. A brief paper will be submitted at this time, with a full paper to follow.
