Abstract
Three years ago Marietta College decided to seek NCATE accreditation and in the process of its self-study, chose to redesign its portfolio requirement to become an assessment instrument, which reflected the Marietta College conceptual framework. As such, students' portfolios were not to be evaluated in relation to a grade in a course, but in relation to whether or not students had attained the knowledge, skills, and dispositions expressed in the conceptual framework. In addition to changing the focus of the portfolio, Marietta decided that a transition also should be made from a paper-based portfolio to one that was electronic-based. This paper and presentation reflect upon the transitional process of migrating from a portfolio that evidenced criteria for a course to one that evidenced the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of an entire program, as well as the process of transforming a paper-based portfolio to an electronic-based one.
