Abstract
This paper describes the assessment efforts of the MLMS (Middle Level Math Science) Institute currently being offered at Central Washington University. This grant-driven initiative is designed to provide 75 inservice middle-school teachers with math, science, and educational technology content knowledge and skills. To provide evidence of their skills and knowledge in these areas, teachers were required to submit a standards-aligned professional portfolio. The facilitators of this institute developed the template for this portfolio by grouping the NMSA (National Middle School Association Standards), NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards), NSES-T (National Science Education Standards for Teachers), and NETS-T (National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers) standards into six common dimensions. This resulting portfolio will be presented along with a discussion of how we hope the process of developing artifacts and aligning their work to standards could influence their teaching in all three areas.
