Abstract

The Department of Educational Leadership and Technology at Southeastern Louisiana University is in the process of redesigning all of their graduate education programs to use electronic (Web-based) portfolio assessment rather than the more traditional comprehensive examination for the culminating evaluation for each program. Many barriers have been overcome to accomplish a change to this new assessment paradigm. This presentation is a discussion of the change in culture, curriculum, and administration that brought about the use of electronic portfolios as the formative and summative assessment tool for these graduate education programs. As part of this process, a departmental Web server has been installed and currently houses several student portfolios. This presentation will showcase several of the student portfolios, which include interactive elements such as streaming video.
