Abstract

In today's elementary classrooms literacy education includes teaching about and through various media. In the past, teachers used traditional methods as a means of motivating students to read and write. Students, however, are much more likely to learn through listening and viewing. Consequently, multimedia tools are becoming an integral part of the teaching and learning process. Using the digital camera is one of the simplest ways to accomplish the task of creating and integrating multimedia into the curriculum. This paper will investigate how the digital camera can be used with the young child in the elementary school classroom to promote an understanding of language arts and literacy.
