Abstract

Within the past decade, there has been tremendous growth of handheld devices in the collegiate classroom. While teachers have worked to integrate these into improving effectiveness, they have also struggled to combat the increased distractibility of students who have them. This study describes a two-year investigative study looking into the impacts of multitasking during college classes on Facebook. In addition to that, the researchers implemented several different teaching strategies including the flipped classroom and didactic questioning using the same quasi-experimental design. The paper will highlight the effects of multitasking on students as measured by the studies and reflect on findings from the various interventions. Finally, the authors draw some implications from the findings.
