Abstract
This paper discusses the creation of a virtual university facility in Lebanon (VUSIL) and its subsequent evaluation. Although general public access to the system is possible, the prototype server was designed with two main user-groups in mind: students and professional engineers. The system was designed to provide lifelong learning opportunities based on the potential of the Internet and the World Wide Web to deliver distance education. A needs analysis was conducted and the results were used to inform the design of the VUSIL system. This paper briefly describes our system and gives a more detailed account of its evaluation. Results from the pilot evaluation are presented. The results of the main evaluation will be included in the final paper.
