Abstract
This paper outlines the design of the Evaluator, a tool for collaborative evaluation of instructional technology resources. New technologies embody vast potential to change education paradigms; however, with no standards for educational software, commercial organizations are promoting products designed by technology experts with little knowledge of pedagogy. The Evaluator will: (1) create an online reference of educational software evaluations; (2) disseminate knowledge of the software evaluation process; (3) empower teachers to use evaluative methodologies and conduct research on the use of instructional applications in their classrooms; and (4) establish a web-based community for educators to build and search the Evaluator's database. The project is associated with the renovation of the Teachers College Milbank Library.
