Abstract

bstract: Palliser Regional Schools has taken a leadership role in providing carrier-grade wide area networking services to students and staff. Through a $1.5 million Alberta Learning Innovative Grant, the district has constructed one of the leading public networks in the country. It is unique, providing 45 Megabits per second service with quality of service features across over 220 kilometres. This high-frequency microwave and fibre optic network provides high-speed, managed information and communications access across the district. Completion of this network presents significant educational possibilities and provides opportunity to reflect upon the role of leadership in realizing the provision of this type of infrastructure to meet the needs of students and educators.
