Abstract
Stakeholders in delivering online educational content are embracing recent developments in Learning Management System (LMS) standards. This is leading campuses to centralize these LMS systems taking them out of satellite departments and assigning their maintenance to core teams of developers and administrators. As a result, demands for rich sources of interactive content and for the creative energy applied to the design and development of that content is increasing. UC Davis, like many campuses, is facing the challenge of integrating two ?home-grown? systems: integrating its LMS system with its portal system. With separate teams for educational content development and portal system development and maintenance, a key challenge is to continue to provide the flexibility each team needs to perform their respective duties. An API standard at UC Davis based on the SCORM/AICC models will minimize connection-signature complexity and leave room for complex-data.
