Abstract

There is a need to investigate the role of, and best practices for, social media use in graduate school programs from an institutional perspective. Graduate students and faculty in the Michigan State University Educational Psychology and Educational Technology (MSU EPET) doctoral program established the Social Media Council (SMC) to provide leadership around social media efforts. Drawing from this experience, we propose social media best practices for graduate school programs. The best practices and emergent benefits outlined are significant to stakeholders in graduate school programs in education and other fields, as well as to researchers interested in the interactions among face-to-face and online hybrid students of the same program.
