Abstract

The USA National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) is a driving force for ongoing self-study and improvement in teacher education. NCATE supports integration of technology in the unit standards and specific program standards. The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) also recognizes the importance of educational computing and technology foundations for all teachers, and acknowledges the need for programs designed to prepare individuals for leadership specializations beyond the foundations. ISTE, in collaboration with NCATE, has developed accreditation standards and rubrics defining program review criteria for national recognition of programs in Educational Technology Facilitation, Educational Technology Leadership, and Secondary Computer Science Education teacher preparation programs. The standards, process, and assessment strategies for collecting evidence to verify that teacher candidates have met these sets of standards will be discussed.
