Abstract

Software remains among the most innovative and fastest growing sectors of the global economy, generating revenues of more than $150 billion every year (Blunt & Shafer 2003) to include software learning tools. Based on these growth figures, parents and administrators appear to have open pocketbooks when it comes to purchasing technology-learning tools. However, wise approaches with the use of these technology-learning tools are not so apparent. With much of the educational software available aimed at the youngest market segment, it would appear that the race is on to shape smarter, quicker, and more intellectual … kindergartners. The overarching goal of the paper is to provide a pathway for teachers and parents as to the wisest approach to teach children with technology tools, based on current literature. The paper uses Jean Piaget's Stages of Cognitive Development as the general guide for children to learn with technology tools.
