Abstract

Learning with computers in school and especially in primary school is and keeps being an important theme in the educational discussion about information and communication technology (ICT) and the so-called 'new learning'. This paper examines social learning processes, focusing on cooperative and collaborative learning. A discussion on pragmatic views on constructivist learning processes is suggested. First results of a research project are presented, where 4th graders were observed during the use of computers in an 'open class' learning environment in German primary schools. The methodological concept of the study refers back to the concept of 'Objective or Structural Hermeneutics' developed by German sociologist Ulrich Oevermann.
