Abstract

Writing skills are an integral part of communication in one's professional life. They include structural issues of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, format and style as well as the ability to organize and present one's critical thinking ability. The online classroom is particularly dependent on appropriate writing skills. The textual communication format requires special attention to the ability to communicate effectively in writing. Writing skills appear to be on the decline generally in higher education. At the same time, little focus has been given thus far to particular challenges of writing skills in the Web-based classroom. Given the increase of such Web courses as part or even all of higher education curricula, it is essential to identify and remediate any problems students might encounter with regard to effective written communication. We would like to share our experiences, challenges, and suggested solutions for helping online students improve their writing skills
