Abstract: Online instruction has quickly become an expected medium for delivery of instruction in higher education environments. Though it is often implemented, preference for this instructional environment varies. There have been many arguments proffered both for and against online instruction. Often, the focal point of the arguments is the interpersonal relationship of the participants in the instructional environment; that is, the scholarly exchange of ideas among the students as well as guidance and input from the instructor. This paper focuses on one online instructional component intended to facilitate conversation - threaded discussions.
