Abstract
A Maturity Model provides a means by which institutions can assess and compare their capability to sustainably develop, deploy and support e-learning. Inherent within them, is an opportunity for an organisation to improve its capability by using the model as a mechanism for identifying areas for development. Yet any development of e-learning relies on the ability of staff in HE to develop, deliver and support e-learning in line with any new processes. As such, the ability to identify and address skills gaps in staff is key to the success of any e-learning strategy. This paper illustrates how an existing Maturity Model can be extended beyond benchmarking and quality assurance to provide the basis for a competency framework and a Learning Needs Analysis tool to support e-learning staff development activities within a HEI.
