Abstract

The paper presents a prototype of integration of mobile devices (PDA, smartphones, Cellular phones) with a Learning Management System. There are many interesting aspects that could be imagined when this integration takes place. People mobility in educational settings, called m-learning, is a current topic, because these devices are nowadays more powerful and widespread. However, we have probably to wait better devices, mainly larger screens, better battery duration and more comfortable keyboards to have a really effective mobile learning. Waiting for this evolution, we can immediately use the great appeal of mobile devices as terminals of a LMS for a wide range of services, mainly devoted to inform the users (teachers, students, administrative staffs, tutors etc.) about facts, news, events happening in their educational setting. The paper presents our experience in extending a LMS towards these mobile devices, through the creation of a SMS service integrated with the system.
