Abstract

A new course developed for the University of North Florida's educational technology Master's program is Educational Technology Systems. This course is appropriate for educators who wish to deepen their understanding of computers in order to become more productive and independent computer users. The course develops an understanding of educational computer hardware and network systems that allows educators to teach about technology systems concepts as well as to make decisions concerning purchase, setup, repair, and appropriate use of technology. This paper details the stages of development of the course using stakeholder input and correlation to the new ISTE/NCATE educational technology leadership standards. To ensure that the course provided the best fit with the needs of area school districts, consultation occurred with school network operators and technology coordinators. Area schools were surveyed to learn about the networks and computer systems in use.
