Abstract

At New Mexico State University (NMSU), we are exploring the use of the web-based tools Centra and WebCT to reach a broader audience as well as enhance existing face to face courses. Centra software simulates the classroom environment with reliable audio conferencing capability, interactive classroom tools, and a user-friendly interface. WebCT is a primarily asynchronous course management software system. With our interactive session we want to illustrate how Centra and WebCT can be used for online teaching and learning. The module we will demonstrate uses a learner-centered, constructivist approach and also focuses on facilitating online teaching and learning including adapting face-to-face lessons into effective distance learning exercises and using blended technologies for training and creating interactivity.
