Abstract
An ongoing collaboration project between The University of Texas at Austin Learning Technology Center, the University of Minnesota Cooperative Learning Center and the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in Mexico is designed to facilitate the systemic change of the teaching and learning process within classrooms serving Hispanic students in a large multi-campus higher education system. This initiative provides a unique opportunity to study and understand the barriers and facilitators in supporting systemic change toward a more constructivitst-based teaching-learning process. This paper provides a summary of the barriers and facilitators identified by Chancellors, Campus Presidents, Deans, Department Chairs and faculty in ITESM. An understanding of the commonalities and differences in perceived barriers and facilitators may be helpful to educators who are currently engaged in or plan initiatives to help faculty move toward the creation of constructivist-based learning environments for their students.
