Abstract

This paper proposes the collaborative free space for spontaneous communication among learners and instructors in preparation/review processes of an asynchronous learning context. In addition, this free space provides easy access to the related contents of www site because of monitoring the behaviors of participants and analyzing them. Collaborative free space also bridges synchronous, asynchronous and semi-synchronous learners by presenting awareness information of other learners' current activity and interest. According to the original idea of this research project, this system could only support asynchronous collaboration. However, this bridging functionality makes this research more useful, convenient and fascinating for various kinds of learners.
