Abstract

Educational institutions that deliver e-learning programs face a lot of challenges inside and outside the e-classrooms. A challenge that they face outside the e-classrooms is to find a way to efficiently manage administrative resources and effectively communicate with e-learners. Slow administrative responses may cause e-learners to feel that they are not receiving timely administrative support from the e-learning institutions and their dissatisfaction toward administrative support can have a negative effect on retention. By using web-based back-end database systems, e-learning institutions can manage administrative processes more effectively. Current web development software can help them develop fairly sophisticated web-based database systems in a reasonable timeframe without having to acquire professional programming skills. In this presentation, we will present two cases where web-based database systems were implemented to improve the efficiency of administrative processes.
