Abstract

This presentation will focus specifically on physical education pedagogy majors. Discussion and demonstration will include how and why a digital portfolio is being used and the benefits it has to the teacher candidates, instructors, and the University. Specific examples of benefits to teacher candidates will include teacher candidate professional growth through reflection, authentic demonstration of teaching skills necessary for a physical education major and an increase in technology skills of teacher candidates. Examples of teacher candidate portfolios will be shown. Examples will include types of digital artifacts being created by teacher candidates, including digital video, text and electronic documents. A discussion of the value of these artifacts to teacher candidate growth and faculty assessment of teacher candidates will be included in the presentation. Also included in the discussion will be the preliminary results of a study involving student perceptions of digital portfolios in the physical education program.
