Abstract
Silk City Media Workshop is an after-school program for middle school students from Paterson, NJ. Housed in the Passaic County Community College's Community Technology Center (CTC) and funded through local, federal and private funding, this program partners with local agencies such as the Paterson YMCA, ASPIRA and Garrett Morgan Academy to provide urban youth with an alternative to more traditional after-school activities while offering access to digital media for the purpose of creative expression. The program is also unique in that it utilizes digitally savvy pre-service teachers from the Montclair State University Teacher Education Program to provide instruction and mentoring for the middle school students participating in the program.
