Abstract
Web-based back-end databases are often used to support e-learning programs. Developing sophisticated web-based back-end database systems can be quite challenging for many organizations. Outsourcing the development and maintenance is an option, but it can be costly. There is an alternative: Using recent web authoring software, you will be able to create a web-based back-end database system within a reasonably short timeframe. In this interactive session, we will demonstrate a step-by-step procedure of creating a web-based back-end database system using FrontPage, the Active Server Page technology and the Structured Query Language. We will also share various examples of web-based back-end database products that we have developed and discuss the simplicities as well as the complexities in designing such systems. We will provide the audience with a handout of the step-by-step instruction on how to create a web-based back-end database system and give them an opportunity to have a hands-on experience.
