Abstract
Nutrition is central to health improvement, disease prevention and effective care and is a key element of UK government policy. Current and future health care professionals – be they doctors, nurses or other health care professionals – must be equipped to deliver consistent and standardised information. Currently, health care professionals are poorly trained in the underlying principles of nutrition, and the available resources to do this are inadequate and cannot meet the need. The University of Southampton Medical School has developed an adaptive and interactive multimedia eLearning solution that provides customised learning solutions for existing and future health care practitioners. It includes customisable nutrition courses, flexible delivery of nutrition courses in three different modes – blended, cohort and self-directed, and administrative and reporting facilities. The learner will experience how nutrition related health promotion and care are provided to the public by following the characters in the nutrition community created for the courses.
