Abstract
This study examined whether and how much online course teachers at the higher education level in Taiwan use computer technologies for their personal life and online instruction, and whether any relationships exist between both uses of technologies. Data were obtained from a survey of 38 teachers of five on-the-job master's programs by universities in Taiwan in 2013. The results showed that the teachers spent a lot of time using desktop/laptop computers, mobile/smart phones for personal purposes, and used email to contact students, interactive learning materials, web-based seminars/presentations, and virtual classroom environments more than other technologies in their online courses. Teachers’ faculty rank, and online teaching experience appeared to be associated with their use of some technologies for personal life or online instruction. In addition, the diversity of teachers’ personal technology use was reflected in their technology use for online courses.
