Programming Virtual Worlds was course designed to use a commercially available computer game product to teach object-oriented programming. Students created puzzles and games in a visual, three-dimensional, interactive environment that looked and played like real games after each activity. Students taking this course demonstrated their learning both by what they created and by how they explained their creations to others. This paper describes the methods used in this course and its activities.
