We investigated how teachers used a novel multimedia website “The Science Learning Hub” (SLH) (www.sciencelearn.org.nz) in science lesson planning through collaborative classroom practice. The web site aims to connect the work of New Zealand scientists to teachers and students in schools by grouping a wide range of related resources into contextual themes. Teachers were provided with professional support to develop units of work that used the site. Questionnaires, interviews, observations and written evidence of planning units of work were used to evaluate aspects of the SLH. Teachers valued the inclusion of current NZ science research and incorporated examples of scientists work in their planning, however integration of aspects of the SLH within the school units of work were limited. The implications of the findings are discussed.
