This paper addresses the development of best practices regarding the evolution and implementation of electronic learning communities in the teacher education program at a private Catholic university in the Midwest. Particular emphasis for this best practices session will be placed on a unique component where faculty utilize innovative new eLearning technologies to collaboratively coach student teachers through the development of their ePortfolios and service learning diversity experiences. Based on data gathered from a survey of principals and superintendents, a clinical capstone course and diversity field experience were redesigned to incorporate new technologies which blend traditional and online interaction through SAKAI, narrated Powerpoint, Tk20, and digital video. Creating this online learning community through the use of eLearning technologies has transformed what were very isolated student experiences into cooperative engagement. We will be sharing best practices documents and student examples.
