The use of multimedia in higher education is an unquestionable fact. This article explores the effects of multimedia for the teaching and learning of Multimedia in a virtual learning environment. To do this, an analysis of academic performance is presented together with the level of general student satisfaction and resources and teacher satisfaction of 49 different courses for a Multimedia degree. Some conclusions regarding the effectiveness of multimedia use at the Open University of Catalonia have been reached. Although the results are not decisive, we believe in the influence of effective multimedia design.
