The use of digital TV for learning purposes is new in Finland, as it is all over the world. The Ministry of Transport and Communication Finland (Mintc A, 2004) has launched the 2-year ArviD digital TV cluster program (ArviD, 2004 A) started on February 24th 2004. ArviD aims to support a smooth transition to the era of digital TV. To determine the current state and future of digital TV in learning in Finland, a research study consisting of interviews and web-based-research has been conducted. In the study, administration (The Ministry of Education, Finnish National Board of Education), education suppliers (municipal and vocational education, polytechnic, universities and adult education collage), digital TV broadcasting companies and content producers were interviewed. This paper reports the results of the research study of the current state and future of digital TV for learning purposes in Finland and discusses the significance of the results for teachers.
