Abstract

This demonstration will provide an overview of CourseWork, Stanford University's course Web site development and distribution system that Stanford plans to release as open source. A description of the system and its users will be provided with emphasis on showcasing usage across various academic disciplines. The presenters will highlight the flexibility of CourseWork's design in supporting multiple approaches to course management. Focus will also be placed on the organizational framework that CourseWork provides to facilitate organization, update, and distribution of course content. Conference attendees who are contemplating the development and/or implementation of a customized open source course management system as a possible solution for their respective campuses are encouraged to explore CourseWork as a model that can be extended and expanded to serve the needs of their academic community.
