Abstract: This paper outlines the design of The Source, a research tool for collaborative literature review. The tool will provide two functions: (1) A forum for enhancing the literature review process, and (2) An instructional environment for building reviews. Sharing literature evaluations in a collaborative environment will enable researchers to find pertinent sources efficiently. In addition, the note-taking system will utilize scaffolding techniques to instructing novice researchers about building effective literature reviews. The Source will use intelligent agents to help the user find the best resources for her project. The initial target audience for the tool will be education researchers.
