Abstract

The purpose of this multimedia project was to create an interactive CD-ROM that would help a student master animal taxonomy and learn about the major groups (Phylum, Sub-phylum, Class) of animals. Previous students have indicated that learning the scientific classification and taxonomy was one of the most difficult aspects of zoology and biodiversity courses. The CD-ROM is a learning tool that reinforces zoological content and tests a student's knowledge. The CD-ROM aids the student in mastering animal taxonomy through several different exercises that stress scientific nomenclature as well as the major attributes of each animal group. The success of the project will be evaluated by direct student feedback, the before and after review quiz, and by the overall success in animal taxonomy. The CD-ROM was originally created for the students of Xavier University's Zoology and Biodiversity classes; however, it is applicable for any student studying animal or organismal biology.
