Abstract

This presentation focuses on the development of the RIMS/BTSA Electronic Portfolio for Teacher Professional Development. This is a pilot project for a large-scale teacher induction program, covering four California counties. The portfolio pilot project was undertaken to meet new state requirements for teacher licensure, which make the RIMS/BTSA project responsible for conducting authentic assessment of participating teachers. The RIMS/BTSA EPTPD is designed to integrate into a pre-existing mentoring system, providing participating teachers with the opportunity to build a teaching portfolio which is tightly integrated with the California Standards for the Teaching Profession under the guidance of in-district and RIMS/BTSA support providers. The presentation will address both the technical aspects involved with the development of the portfolio system, as well as the integration of the system into the RIMS/BTSA program. Initial empirical and qualitative findings from surveys and focus groups with pilot participants will be presented.
